ARKANSAS WAS A MAJOR LOCATION FOR SMITHSONITE. PERHAPS, THE BEST LOCATION FOR "TURKEY FAT" SMITHSONITE AND CADMIUM (YELLOW) SMITHSONITE. THE RUSH, ARKANSAS, AREA WAS MADE INTO A NATIONAL RECREATION AREA AND MOST OF THE MINES WERE SEALED AND COLLECTING IS NOT ALLOWED. YELLOW SMITHSONITE WAS NEVER ABUNDANT AND NOW VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND.
