These are the remaining cubes released from a collector that purchased many of the large cubes from me (I purchased the majority that were found during this time period). Seldom more than ten cubes 3 1/2" and larger were found during the year. After the 1980's, fewer large pyrites cubes were found.

The hematite is included in a very clear quartz that then is overcoated with clear quartz. The quartz has a superb, gem luster.
I purchased many of the better specimens in 2012, but was able to find the remainder of the pocket recently.

as small grains with barite occasionally found in layers. A chimney was found where the barite was coated with marcasite.
The miners quickly collected some of the specimens. The chimney was filled with concrete and ended collecting. (Currently, specimens are virtually not available, but we were able to purchase some of the best of the scarce specimens.)

After intense scouring of the deposits and collections by my source, I have been able to update the Hourglass Amethyst Gallery on 6/25/13. I have the best of the 109 specimens that were found. There will not be more available until after October.
This is a very, very limited deposit (See below).
Specimens of doubly terminated amethyst, that is zoned in a hourglass pattern, appeared for the first time in 2009 at the Sainte-Marie-Aux-Mines show. The source at Bou Oudi, Province de Tata, Morocco, was finally found. The limited supply of specimens are collected from a very small area of approximately 5 x 20 meters.
The amethyst does not follow a bed but is found along a fault. Since the crystals are loose in mudstone, no matrix specimens have been located . The mudstone is friable and usually cracked (as is most of the amethyst).
The unusual hourglass is formed by preferential zoning of iron that is only in the rhombohedreal sectors of the crystals. Needles of red are found in some crystals that are probably hematite. The crystals are flattened with one surface having a sugar like appearance. Less than 5% of the crystals are doubly terminated with most crystals from 3 to 4 cm.
